I am a graduate student in Art Education and am currently working on a research project about understanding students needs. I would like to interview a few experienced educators for the project ...

As a student who went through k-12 with undiagnosed ADHD, I know it is easy to mistake learning disabilities as individual, intentional bad behavior.

I am wondering if you have personal experience or stories related to observed behavioral issues that turned out to be signs of deeper emotional issues or special needs? Have you ever witnessed rude or unusual behavior from a student which led you to recommend special needs assessment?

In other words, how do you decide when a student's bad behavior is unintentional, and when he is just being resistant?
