Posted about 1 month ago Recently, a Rasmussen poll found that Americans place these concerns at the very top of their list.
Government ethics and corruption — 83 percent
I know I've got a big audience of educators here, but I'm wondering how you all view education as it fits in with your other priorities becuase (or in spite of) education is your occupation. TheApple contributor, Patrick Riccards, writes more about this topic here.

| Posted about 1 month ago I'm a teacher. I come from a ridiculously long line of educators. A top passion of mine is making sure that the education system is handled correctly. But for me, government ethics and corruption plays such a big part in that. I can't help but feel that in today's system, people are being screwed right and left out of what's best for them, so that someone else can make and buck and obtain more power. I no longer feel as though most elected officials have their constituents' best interest at heart. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Our biggest problem is overpopulation. Too many children are born to families that can't properly parent their children (not enough resources/money/time/love etc...) This creates other problems. One example is the fact that our schools are bursting at the seams in urban areas. In addition, these people are easy targets for marketers that promise the American dream/status if you just get this cell phone, this ipod etc...creating an economy of exploitation and people with stress and debt. By closing the borders and limiting the amount of children you can have as well as create parenting classes so you must have some sense of what to do, you may not eliminate the madness, just keep it under control. |

| Posted about 1 month ago The most serious problem of our age is economic. If more people had quality jobs, the rest of the serious problems would fade away. People who earn a good living don't turn to crime. People who earn a good living have better medical care. People who earn a good living have fewer children and are able to care for the ones that they have. This applies equally to Americans as well as those who live in the rest of the world. There would be fewer political/war problems if fewer people were plagued by poverty. It's difficult, if not impossible, to solve the other problems without dealing with economics. Unfortunately, money is the root of all evil...or at least most of them. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Maybe it's because I'm young, naive, and still fresh to the profession (I'm student teaching), but I feel that we could find ways to fix all of these issues if we had better education. |

| Posted about 1 month ago But if we're not educated, how can we solve any of the problems that need solving? |

| Posted about 1 month ago As a first generation educator, I believe that educating our societies is the best way to combat most of the other evils plaguing our government. I grew up in poverty because my parents were both mid school drop outs. They were married and pregnant before either could drive a car legally. Factory work and minimal income has plagued them forver. We follow what we know most of the time. I have a MS and am not deemed in poverty category. I am in a higher social stature than the rest of my family, I suffer from less ailments, my health costs are lower, I tend to be more active in government and community actions. So I believe that education is what gives me the powers to overcome the ineffiencies of past experiences.
I am the first person in my family line to accomplish a higher degree and I have three. Education is a very powerful thing. We must teach to empower. Every cloud has a silver lining. |

| Posted about 1 month ago At one of those events where Sen and Congressmen come in to hear the public oppion or lack there of (your choice), a teacher ask a question about education and they where berated by the mass of people. education is not thought of very highly in our country. Don is right we have an over population problem, and a parenting problem. but until we teach kids to care they will grow up to not care about education. I hate this stigma that we have as just people who couldn't do anything else in life, some of us were successful bussiness people before turning to education. However, it seems we are in that light instead of the light that we are teaching the next president of the united states, the next Sen. the next Doctor, the person to find the cure for cancer or aids. Education in my oppion should be in the top three concerns and prioritized as such. I do feel to that we should lean more to the european form of education at middle school they can opt out in to a trade school so that they to can be productive members of society instead of being "lock up" in school at i have been often told by students who hated other classes. What could it hurt to atleast look at this and try this. test scores would go up because only those who wanted to learn would be there, and we would have many more people who could have a profession earlier in life and have a better oportunity at success. (p.s I know that there are typoes please don't drill me i am giving a test and have to hurry). |
