So if you haven't heard yet, Tony Danza, an actor famous for his role on Who's the Boss? has become a "real" teacher in a reality series in an urban Philadelphia school.

Here's the latest article.

A few tidbits I foudn interesting:

1. The class was casted- not so realistic when you get to pick your students!

2. He's not certified. He's got to have another teacher with him all the time

3. The funniest part- some students have no idea who he is. I guess Who's the Boss? isn't playing reruns anymore!

Read the full article for more "interesting" facts about this show.

Definitely no "reality" in Reality TV.

I remember those commercials...I am not a doctor, but I play one on TV..

Wouldn't it be nice if somebody actually had a reality series where they'd go into the classroom of real teachers? One teacher per week would be very interesting. I think that many parents would be interested to see what really happens in a classroom.

That's a good idea. Next question is...would any of you volunteer?

When I was still teaching, I had an open door policy. Supervisors knew that they could come in to observe or bring visitors anytime. I think that if everyone had such a policy classrooms would be better off. Teachers should try to be at their best all the time.

An equally good question would be...why wouldn't you volunteer?

Nice 180 there!

I would have no problem. I too have always had an open door policy. I teach engineering, and we almost always have some kind of exciting PBL going on. Admin loves to show it off.

Jill,

Please tell your Monster buddies to sponsor such a show. I'd be happy to be a consultant...for a fee, of course.

Hey now...this might be a good way to get some classroom money! How much should we get if they visit us?

I have actually been in schools where they have installed cameras in the classrooms. It does not bother me that administration or someone comes into the classroom. Shoot last year my students and I were reviewing for the end of year test I give and we were using a giant beach ball. We were having such fun my principal unlocked my door thinking I had stepped out and the students were being chaotic. She walked in and grinned because she caught thirty people enjoying the study technique. She was also impressed that all my students passed the test with 70% or better. We talked about it later and she told me that as long as I don't disrupt another class then she didn't mind the kids learning with fun. Since my room is not close to any other I am very safe

Every cloud has a silver lining.
