8:05pm Friday,September 4th 2009, I was walking in a street as a part of the exercise I have to do everyday. A dog, golden retriever was there  at a bus stop, sniffing people. I saw it  and I thought that it was going to smell me , actually, I don't like any kind of pets and I tried to avoid the contact but I couldn't . he sniffed me and started following me I tried to make him go but  he continued his following me. I kept walking, thinking of the owner of that dog, but how could I know where he lived to give him back. It started raining and I kept walking and so did it. I walk for around 40 minutes I thought that if the dog continued following me when we got home I tried to see if it had a collar with information about where he lived and who his owner was. he didn't have any collar. Now I have a dog.

If I let him out of my house, in the street, somebody might steal it and never give him back to his owner. If I look for the owner where should I start?, besides I do not have time to look for somebody who I don't know. If I keep it I have to learn to live with a pet at home. I want to give it back to the owner (the real owner) after all, he must be  missing him.

what would you do?

Dear FER,

If you want to take the time/trouble, you could take a photo of the dog, make a notice describing the circumstances, give contact info where the owner can reach you, and post it around the neighborhood (in stores, too, with the owners' permission.) You could advertise in the newspaper, too.

If you can't locate the owner and you don't ant to/can't keep the dog, here are some organizations you might try to contact.

For some reason, the link doesn't seem to be working, but if you use the one below, you will find the first two links there to be OK.

..you can also put it on Craigslist. I often see "lost" and "found" pets on that.  Go to Craigslist.com. Good luck.

What kind of dog is it? If it's a teeny tiny dog that can fit in a teacup, I'll take it if you can't find the owner.

I have decided to keep it until the owner comes and take it. it's a good trained dog.
