One that's still ongoing, that is. Being a geezer, I suppose I have an advantage (but there's a downside, too - friends pass on.). My oldest ongoing friendship has lasted about forty-six years. He's a friend I made in the Marines.

I'm fighting with my best friend right now...but it won't last...we were 14 years old together...thats 44 years now....as I've said before, when I get one, I tend to keep 'em!

It is difficult to answer this question in numbers for me.

I gree with you debo: once I have  friends, I keep them . There're occasional periods of passiveness within the frienshi- meaning: long time no see (or hear)...but time is probably irrelevant if the frienship is real.

Since I moved a lot as a kid I don't have that many friends from then. I made friends in the ninth grade that I still have today. I know that is not very long compared to most, but it has been 16 years since then. I am still friends (and we keep in touch) with four of my best friends from high school.Since high school I have acquired a few more friends that I pal around with. When I make friends, we are friends.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

Nan and I have been best friends since the 7th grade (about 28 years).  We too have been through our ups and downs of friendships, however, I would not trade her for the world.  She now lives in Georgia and I live in Alaska.  We still keep in close contact even though it has been 15 years since we last saw each other.  I have long lasting friends in Alaska also.  Kathy and I have been good friends since our kids went to Kindergarten together, that was 14 years ago.

Hey Mr. Crisp, I believe the expression you were looking for is "lucked-out" (means "got lucky")... your oldest friendship is 6 years old?  That's fairly youthful...have you moved around a lot?  or maybe you just don't keep-in-touch very well?

Just wondering...

I have four friendships that are 41 years long and still going strong. The five of us all met during a political campaign in 1968 and we get together several times a year. Our wives/husbands and children are now friends with all of us and each other.

I am still friends with a girl I met in kindergarten.  She's more like family to me.  I know her 35 years!  : Oh no, now you all know my age. I don't look it, do I? Sorry, I am just being silly this last week of school, I work with four men and I'm the only women in the class and we like to incorporate humor into out lessons!  I can honestly say this is the best year I've had since I went back into teaching!

 Dear Deven,

Eugene or Bobby? I'm betting Eugene.

My friends from High School were not the best people to be around and I didn't want my kids around that type of life.

I have also been out of touch with almost everyone while going through college.
