Besides teaching my class, I am on the school's data analysis team, the READ180 coordinator, on the library committee, training teachers in writing better IEPs, and trying to start a debate team.

What other duties do you have? Did you choose to take them on or were they assigned?

Right now - for once - I don't have any other duties (unless you count making up five syllabi to teach the five subject areas in GED). But when I was the coordinator/administrator of the English Language Center of the Institute of Public Administration back in Riyadh, SA (we had a staff of over forty teachers), my "other duties" included:

1. also teaching 18 hours a week (not including the TOEFL class mentioned below)

2. being in charge of and reviewing all testing (in addition to making my own tests.)

3. being in charge of and reviewing all in-house made instructional materials (in addition to making my own.)

4. being the TOEFL teat administrator and teaching an in-house TOEFL class

These were all "extra duties" in addition to the duties of the coordinator position, which involved the day-to-day running of the center, assigning teaching and other duties, and acting a liaison between the other staff and the higher administration.

When I left, the coordinator position was divided between two staff members: a general coordinator who did no teaching and a testing coordinator who taught part-time.

And yes - I actually chose to be the coordinator, but only because, if I didn't, the director threatened to appoint another teacher (whose abilities I considered to be less than sufficient) to be the coordinator.

Over the years, in addition to being a social studies teacher, I was the yearbook advisor, school photographer, grant writer, and coordinated the long trips (meaning from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM) away from the school...and other fun stuff.
