So many times we give inferior products to our students because, 'hey, they're kids and won't know the difference or care'. Yet, some of the best art is Kid Art. Dichotomy. I believe we should treat Art like any other intelligent subject and teach our students about chosing the right tool for the right job, about the end product of using quality tools, and the benefit in learning to care for their instruments. Fiskar makes good scissors. Try them. You'll see.
