I'm old enough to remember when Elvis died. Now it's like history repeating itself with the death of Michael Jackson, only more so.&nb... |

- About Me
- I'm a substitute teacher who's certified to teach English, grades 7 through 12. I love to write creatively; some of my short works, both fiction and nonfiction, have been published. Currently I'm (surprise, surprise) working on a novel. I have three cats: Archimedes, Lucretia, and Spartacus. My favorite TV programs are news shows, documentaries, and movies (usually oldies). I became a teacher because sharing what I've learned with the younger generation is a great way to give back to the world what it's given me. I'm interested in just about every topic concerning education, including controversial ones. Right now I'm studying computing and Spanish, and looking for work, preferably in education. I'm the Administrator for two discussion groups on this website, Arkansas Educators and Class Clowns: Humor for Educators. Stop me if this is the wrong place for me to mention this, but there's one thing about me that you might not expect of someone who lives in a small town in Arkansas, and has for most of her life. I practice Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism, and have since 1971.
- Hobbies:
- Reading, Animals/Pets, Art, Music, Computer Activities, Movies, Watching TV, Writing
- Favorite Movies:
- Somewhere in Time, From Here to Eternity, Star Wars, Excalibur, and too many classic musicals and historical epics for me to list
- Favorite TV Shows:
- almost anything on The History Channel
- Favorite Music:
- any kind of real music (that excludes rap)

Late one night at the insane asylum, one inmate shouted, "I am Napoleon!"
Another patient asked, "How do you know?"
The first inmate said, "Because God told me!"
Just then, a voice from another room shouted, "I did NOT!"

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." --- Socrates, 6th century BCE

My favorite topical joke right now: Federal officials and the World Health Organization have asked the public to stop calling the new epidemic "the swine flu" because it's hurting the pork industry. However, their preferred term, "H1N1 influenza A", doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. On one blog, the contributors debated what to rename the illness. One suggested, "How about 'the other white flu'?"

:::::::::::::::::::A Teacher for All Seasons::::::::::::::
A teacher is like Spring,
Who nurtures new green sprouts,
Encourages and leads them,
Whenever they have doubts.
A teacher is like Summer,
Whose sunny temperament
Makes studying a pleasure,
Preventing discontent.
A teacher is like Fall,
With methods crisp and clear,
Lessons of bright colors
And a happy atmosphere.
A teacher is like Winter,
While it’s snowing hard outside,
Keeping students comfortable,
As a warm and helpful guide.
Teacher, you do all these things,
With a pleasant attitude;
You’re a teacher for all seasons,
And you have my gratitude!

Stone County is in north central Arkansas. Its county seat and largest town in Mountain View, a vacation center.
About the phonetic spelling bit, it's actually spelled "Nam-myoho-renge-kyo." Where'd you learn about that?

...between you 'n' me, the name "Debbie" went bad for me when "Debbie Does Dallas" came out...
I was still in high school and couldn't abide by the reputation this movie gave me, so I changed...at that point I was called "Dee".
nam-yo-ho-rengaikyo! (completely phonetic spelling, but you get the gist)
