Jill Hare | Editor, TheApple
TheApple has researched and compiled a complete list of states that offer loan forgiveness for teachers. Not all states offer loan forgiveness, but there are federal programs that may help teachers erase school debt.

It sure would be nice to have some stimulus money to help pay back student loans. I agree with Marygorown. Why can't we declare bankruptcy and have our student loans paid off by the government?

Oklahoma does the Perkins forgiveness program. If you teach in the state of OK within a school that has more than ten percent free/ reduced lunches for at least three years. This is only if you DO NOT CONSOLIDATE your Perkins loans with any other loans after graduation. Tip: 90 percent of Oklahoma's public schools fell into this category in 2006.

Wow, a few thousand dollars over two-years... Where's our stimulus plan? Why can't we declare bankruptcy and have our student loans paid off by the government?

It's too bad teacher prep programs don't offer more of this info since it would really help pay things back.

The information posted in this article was what was found from each state. Unfortunately, some states do not offer current information or have suspended their existing programs.
