MA, English as a Second Language

MA, English as a Second Language

TheApple.com

A Master’s degree in ESL education prepares you to teach in a PK-12 English Language Learning/English as a Second Language setting.

The United States has become a diverse culture. Classrooms across the US are filled with a diverse population. There is more demand than ever for teachers to reach this student population with unique needs.

ESL programs help educate teachers and build on their existing knowledge on how to manage a classroom and develop curriculum for this diverse population. An important part of the education process for future ESL teachers is to understand how students learn a second language and adapt to the new culture and society around them. Fluency in another language is not required, but it can be a great asses for ESL teachers in gaining employment.

Students that are entering a master’s program in ESL must have completed a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Educators are trained to teach ESL effectively and help provide curricular leadership to their schools.

ESL educators are in high demand, both nationally and abroad. According to bls.gov, ESL educators are employed at a variety of colleges, private schools, and in rural and inner city school districts. These positions are in great demand, making competition for employment less than in other areas of education.

While ESL teachers are in demand in the US, this type of degree might open up possibilities to work abroad.

The article is written to pursuade the reader to begin a study program for English as a second language. It would be more appropriate if the graph showed starting salaries. At the least it should have indicated median years of experience.
Aside from the graph, the article has almost no information. The paragraphs make statements that are so obvious, anyone could have written the article.
