2009 Job Outlook for Teachers
Bureau of Labor Statistics
The Bureau of Labor Statistics studied career trends for teachers and have released some vital information for those who will be seeking employment as teachers. They have released favorable predictions for the job outlook for K-12 teachers, as well as information on how and why the employment of teachers will change over the next few years. The BLS has also marked several high-demand education occupations and targeted locations in the U.S. where teachers will be needed more in the upcoming years due to an increase in population.

I think people need to take a double look at some school districts from around the country and get the real picture, which is that job fairs are being canceled and schools are on a hiring freeze. Right now I'm in Atlanta, Georgia one of the states that is "supposedly hiring more" and there is absolutely nothing here. I've heard in the past Georgia always needed teachers but the 4 school district job fairs I was signed for have all been canceled "due to the economic turn down." I'm a certified K-5 elementary teacher and I had to accept a job as a daycare substitute teacher and I have a feeling that's where I'll be forced to work next school year

Hi There,I taught for 2 yrs at an IU and for 2 years for a school district in an alternative setting. After I got my Master’s degree in education (dual cert. in el ed and sp ed), I unintentionally let my license become inactive while I accepted work in another field.. Mental Health/Behavior Consulting. I guess what I am asking is has anyone else let their license become inactive and what did you do to get it back to active status short of taking classes at the university?
Thanks for any suggestions/facts you can offer.

When were these projections done? All I can see locally are job freezes, school districts laying off staff and others begging staff to take "voluntary, unpaid leave."

There is a hiring freeze just about everywhere. The only openings were science and english at city schools.

I have been a language teacher for over twenty years in Lanzhou Petrochaemical College in PR China_I have the experience of teaching English, Japanese and French and I'm very popular with my students. Now i'm interested in landing a job of teaching Chinese, English or French somewherer in America or European countries but I found it very difficult to get in touch with a potential employer without an agent--i hate to get a job through any of those agents here in my country because they charge an exorbitant fee for scooping you a visa or work permit although I have the necessary qualifications as a college teacher here at home: a teacher's certificate, a certificate of Chinese Putonghua(Mandarin Chinese), and another certificate for teaching Chinese abroad!! I tried to register online but later find that those formats do not suit me because they are only meant for natives--i often got stuck filling zip code, phones and state. Anyhow, i just wanna try my luck here and hope any of you can come to my help or be friends with me on my way of language learning and teaching. Your suggestions and advise on the issue are highly appreciated. My email:chihweichao@yeah.net. Merry Christmas .Bon Noel. Shengdan Kuaile.

I am a Mozambican primary and high school teacher at Christian American School (CAM) her in Mozambique. I am really interested in having an oppotunity of teaching in America or Europe. If there is someone out there who can offer this opportunity, I would be very grateful.

Always a bright spot for someone. It all depends on how hard you are willing to work, or what kind of commitment you are willing to make. Urban schools are tough, but worth it.

Increase in hiring? I've been looking for a secondary Ed position for 2.5 years and have come up with nothing. Zippo!

Yeah this article sounds great, but has anyone taken the economy into consideration. I am a a teachers aid looking for a teaching job and it seems to me that all school districts in NY put a hold on hiring new teachers.
