The School District of Philadelphia should be avoided at all costs unless you are a teacher who is at the end of their rope looking for a job like I was back in 1999. It is fraught with corruption from school to school. Principals influence test scores by changing them in their offices and take entire tests from the building; both of which is illegal and a security breech. Administrators in certain schools harass their employees if they are new and target them for failure right off the bat. It is not the greatest place to work. Work there and get out when you can. On the upside, it offers fantastic health benefits (no insurance premiums out of salary, low prescription co-pays) and comparable starting salaries with the suburban counterparts. However, the top salary scale leaves a ton to be desired and the union is not very strong. Get your experience and get out. Don't be a lifer. No tuition reimbursement unless you need your permanent certification. The district is very backwards. Make every attempt to get to a suburban district.
