That is quite unfortunate for the both of you. I think Chicago, is slowly but surely, becoming a great place to get kids educated. I graduated from CPS high school and Hubbard was amongst the best offering a great public education. Mock trial city champs for many consecutive years, I'm glad to have been a part of that team and my old band mates! Some teachers are bad, period, but there are definitely those that made the impact on me to want to become one and I owe them everything.

I can not even believe they named Chicago as one of the best cities to work in. I had my first teaching job in chicago 12 years ago. I have never seen a school run so poorly. The things I saw at that school would make a book. A lot of teachers in this school were full time subs because they couldn't even get teachers. The administration was particularly inept. Also their district office is a black hole. I work in the suburbs now and we can never get students files from there nor could my district get my records from there. My district said that wasn't unusual. I didn't get my last W2 form from that district and they said they sent it and I ended up going downtown and paying for it. Then I got it in the mail six years later. All in all, working for the CPS was a nightmare.

This City is very difficult to get a job in, even if the school is in a troubled area you have to know some body or be a certain race to work in most of these schools in CPS. Also they make you wait till sometimes two days before school starts to let you know whether or not you have received the position you applied for. Be careful when deciding that Chicago is the place for you, cause they may not think you are in the right place after all.
